Arion House

I am most often asked to suggest authentic Hydra Houses. Visitors are eager for stays that are different from their own homes and have lots of Hydra character. So it gives me great pleasure to host and recommend Arion House. It's a gentle walk up from the harbour, is cool and airy and is a real home rather than a business-style rental. The owner has renovated her property to a very high standard taking care to keep the authentic character when adding all modern convenience.

From the pretty square, above the old high school, the house is tucked back from the street and steps from the front entrance take you to the first floor.

On the first floor there are two of the double bedrooms, an excellently fitted kitchen and the first floor shower room. There is a traditional internal staircase, but most people use the back door steps from the kitchen to reach the second floor terrace which is a great place to enjoy the view and evening cocktails.

Cooking and dining 'at home' is a delight with a fully fitted kitchen and every appliance needed, including a dishwasher, full size oven and big larder fridge/freezer.

The house is available for a maximum of six guests in three double bedrooms. The shower room on the first floor is shared between bedrooms 1 and 2. So this floor is ideal for a couple with 2 children to share. And another couple can be slightly removed on the second floor with bedroom 3 which has an ensuite shower room. The back, street door opens to stone stairs to the second floor terrace allows guests using bedroom 3 to come and go without disturbing anyone sleeping downstairs.

The second floor sitting room is bright, airy and comfortably furnished. Again, with lots of Hydra's character and smashing sea views. It's a great place to chill out, chat of an evening or play cards.

The top terrace offers perfect 180 degree views of Hydra's harbour, the sea and across to the Peloponnese mainland.
